AI Agent Traffic Is Surging: Use bunny.net

AI agent traffic grew 41.5% in Q3 2026. See how bunny.net Agent Readability and Shield help AI tools read your site while bad bots stay out.
AI agent traffic is surging, and your website is already part of it. DataDome's Q3 2026 report found that AI agent requests rose 41.5% from the previous quarter, to nearly 25 billion. Site owners now need to help useful AI tools read their site and stop harmful ones. bunny.net has features for both.
What the AI agent traffic numbers show
DataDome tracks bot traffic across its network. Meta's bots made up about 49.7% of AI agent traffic in Q3. Meta's new Muse agent sent 29.1 million requests in its first 12 days of full availability.
The risky part is where some requests go. In DataDome's Muse sample, 8.9% reached sensitive pages such as login, payment and forms. Agentic browsers, which act like a person using a browser, grew from 12.5 million requests in August to 58.2 million in September.
Site owners can block AI bots one by one. The report notes that this does not cover agents that browse like a normal browser.
Why AI agent traffic matters for your business
Not every AI visit is a threat. When a buyer asks an AI tool about your products, the tool may fetch your pages to answer. Anthropic, for example, says its Claude-User bot visits websites when a person asks Claude a question.
Other visits are unwanted. Scrapers copy your content, and badly behaved agents can hit login and form pages. So you need to welcome some agents and filter others.
Make your site readable with Agent Readability
bunny.net announced Agent Readability in Bunny Optimizer on 24 September 2026. It is in Public Preview. It converts eligible HTML pages into Markdown and generates an llms.txt guide that lists them. Human visitors still see your normal design.
Markdown keeps the text, headings, lists and tables. It drops the navigation and layout code. An agent can ask for a page with an Accept: text/markdown header, or use a Markdown URL.
The feature is included with Optimizer at no extra cost. Optimizer is priced at $9.50 per month. You switch it on in your Pull Zone under Optimizer, so there is no need to rebuild your website.
Keep expectations realistic. The feature helps agents find and read your pages. It does not promise that AI tools will quote you.
Filter bad bots with Bunny Shield
Bunny Shield bot detection finds automated traffic using behavioral fingerprinting, header anomalies and IP reputation. You choose a sensitivity level: Low (the default), Medium, High or Custom. Higher levels add stricter fingerprint and request checks.
Shield also keeps a catalog of verified bots. It has an AI Scraper category for crawlers that collect content for AI models. It also has an AI Tool category for agents that fetch pages for a user. By default these are set to "No action", so you decide which ones to allow.
Real bots are checked with a reverse DNS lookup. A fake user agent does not get a free pass. Shield also offers:
- Rate limiting by IP address, user or path.
- A WAF that blocks OWASP Top 10 threats.
- DDoS protection with 119 global scrubbing centers.
A simple plan for your site
Start with a short review of which bots visit your site and which pages they touch. Turn on Agent Readability for your public content pages. Then set Shield rules to protect login, payment and form pages. Raise the sensitivity only where you see abuse, so real customers are not blocked.

Frequently asked questions
Will blocking AI bots remove my site from AI answers?
It can, for the bot you block. Anthropic says blocking Claude-User or Claude-SearchBot may reduce your visibility in Claude's answers. Blocking ClaudeBot only asks that your future content is left out of model training.
What is an llms.txt file?
It is a plain text guide that lists your key pages with short descriptions, so AI agents can find them faster. Not every AI tool is known to read it, so treat it as a helper and not a guarantee.
Is Agent Readability ready for live websites?
It is in Public Preview, so details and prices may change. Test it on a few public content pages first, and keep login and payment pages out of the test.
Key takeaway
AI agent traffic is growing fast, and it includes both helpful and harmful visits. Make your public pages easy to read, and protect sensitive pages with bot rules. bunny.net Agent Readability and Bunny Shield cover both jobs.
