CYBERJAYA — As part of their continuing relationship, Primary Guard and Cloudflare recently held a webinar entitled “Help! I’m Under Attack: How Can I Protect My Website from DDoS Attacks?”
The webinar, hosted by Primary Guard’s Technology Department Manager Afiq Lazman, focused on the many forms a DDoS attack can happen and what clients can do in response to it. Representing Cloudflare were Eric Tung, Technical Engineer, ASE and ACE, and Chrisanthy Carlane, Partner Solution Engineer for APAC.
The webinar began with an overview of cybersecurity challenges and trends, followed by a summary of what a DDoS attack is, a simulation of how it happens, and the DDoS trends for the 1st quarter of 2020.
“52% of organizations report being breached within the last year with 20% of bad bots composing web traffic. We are seeing more and more cyberattacks in this type of cyberattacks. Web application firewalls may block some of the cyberattacks but may not stop the increasing number of attacks nor will they protect against other forms of advanced fraud. This is why we also need a bot management solution that goes beyond work functionality.” – Chrisanthy Carlane, Cloudflare’s Partner Solution Engineer for APAC
She continued to cover the rest of the challenges industries face with regards to cybersecurity in the coming year. All these data concluded that better, more advanced protection is needed. From there, the webinar shifted to talking about the topic at hand, DDoS attacks.
During this webinar, Eric also simulated how a DDoS attack happens and what kind of damage it can do to a target. During the demonstration, Eric reiterated the importance of bot protection and how a majority of websites overlook it. “When done successfully, a DDoS attack disrupts a website’s traffic causing legitimate users to encounter difficulty when trying to access it.”
He demonstrated this by attacking a demonstration website using 16 bot servers. “This will not only impact the user experience, but also the business conducted on said website,” explained Eric.
The demand for better cybersecurity and data infrastructure is something that the teams at Primary Guard and Cloudflare know very well. Because of today’s workforce shifting to a Work-From-Home (WFH) or Work-From-Remote setup, many businesses’ cyberinfrastructure is left vulnerable.
